What a great series we completed recently – Primal.  Thanks to Mark Batterson for the free copy of his book, and for the great heart for sharing God’s wisdom, creativity and truth with other leaders and pastors.  On the heels of the series, there was a question that was emailed to me I thought might stir your thoughts, and I’ll give you mine….

Q: If doing God’s purposes are both the source and the output of ‘primal energy’ (loving God with all of our strength Mark 12:30) then why don’t I have physical energy in the midst of a task (environmental factors aside)?  Can it be that the task(s) I am doing aren’t God’s will/purpose for me at this time? (my thoughts to come after some of you have posted yours)

622. a number. meaningless alone. without context pointless. here’s the context: 425 are at church at Lifesong normally so nearly 50% more were at church this weekend than are otherwise – that’s a lot of people hearing the deep truth of Jesus sacrifice and glorification. 622. not 11,000. 622. if churches average 73 people then that’s 5.9 times normal each weekend and 8.7 times normal on Easter. more context. NO MARKETING. We’re a big believer in the reality that your message or product can change nobody that isn’t there to hear it (that whole faith comes by hearing thing….) so we BETTER work HARD at getting people through the doors; but we didn’t as an organism, just organically.  We usually do. We didn’t. 622. Lifesong regulars took very naked responsibility and ownership to intercede for, invest in, and invite their loved ones – friends and families – to church. Radical idea. intercede, invest & invite (thanks Northpoint Church for the springboard idea). context. personal compassion for the lost. personal ownership for their soul. Read more

Two Sunday’s ago I told our church that I would post some practical application tools for them to add to their relational space, but the message would be pre-dominately principles.  Well this post was due a week ago – my sincere apologies to all of you looking for it last week.  I’ve added a little bonus to the mix in this one – a free copy of a book I believe is a classic in the marital relationship development arena, and one of the best too.  All you have to do is offer your thoughts & comment in-line with this post and we’ll randomly select a winner from the list and send you the book – easy.  So what are those practical elements? Abracadabra has been an awesome series so far – three weeks of magic (pun intended). Seeing the worship environment and the message hit the heart of the congregation and them respond to Him NEVER gets old.  I thought I’d just share a few ‘magical moments’ from yesterday – service and the rest of the day… Read more

Last week I shared with you some things I learned after the start of our new series Abracadabra. No sense reiterating them since you can just look at the previous post to catch up on those thoughts.  They are still SO fresh in my mind though – challenging to my emotions and my leadership control disorder, but God isn’t finished with me yet – and that’s GREAT NEWS for our church!
