Finding a fulfilling prayer experience has little to do with the quantity of minutes or the quality of words, and more to do with the surrender to silence. A life of prayer is central to that fulfillment, but recognizing God’s speaking to us is the powerful, and confirming reality we all crave.

Prayer can be intimidating in the beginning. Even praying ‘in our head’ or ’spirit’ can feel a bit difficult as our own wandering thoughts can displace the focus we want, and believe we should have. Having a format for prayer isn’t only a good idea, but it’s exactly what Jesus invited us to do!

Prayer comes easy when things get hard. It’s not as easy when things are though. Could it be that our practice of prayer is rooted in the wrong place? What if our feeling of God’s not ‘listening’ is more about our evaluation of His performance, than His nature? How do we find a deeper sense of prayers power?

The beginning of the new year is a time when we resolve to step out of our comfort zones. Whether it’s a decision to lose weight, build healthier habits, or finally finish the basement, we enter into a transformative period for ourselves and/or our environments. However, we often become discouraged and fall back into comfort afraid of what it takes to experience true transformation. We can do this in our spiritual lives just as, if not more often than we realize. What can we do when we feel our dedication waning?
